Jorge Vilda statement: Coach condemns Federation chief, doesn't resign

Jorge Vilda was the last man left to take a stand after the events of the Rubiales case.

After applauding the appearance of the now-suspended president, the coach followed in the footsteps of Luis De la Fuente and released a statement, reported by Relevo, in which he condemned Rubiales' attitude but also made it clear that he is still in charge of the national team.

Vilda, with his back against the wall after the resignation of the eleven women on his coaching staff, has decided to stick to his position and will not step down as national team coach. This is what he says in the statement according to Relevo:

VILDA STATEMENT:

"The events that have taken place since Spain won the Women's World Cup for the first time in its history and up to the present day have been a real nonsense and have generated an unprecedented situation, tarnishing a deserved triumph for our players and our country.

I deeply regret that the victory of Spanish women's football has been damaged by the improper behaviour of our current head, Luis Rubiales, which he himself has acknowledged.

There is no doubt that this is unacceptable and in no way reflects the principles and values that I defend in my life, in sport in general and in football in particular.

I unreservedly condemn any macho attitude, which is unworthy of an advanced and developed society.

An undesirable climate has been created, far removed from what should have been the norm.
