Total divorce between Cristiano Ronaldo and Madridismo

The Portuguese player has never had the same 'feeling' with his club's fans as Messi at Barça

The divorce between Cristiano Ronaldo and Madridismo is now total. They've had enough. The most recent demonstration was the whistles from the Bernabeu aimed at the Portuguese star on Sunday during the game against Real Sociedad. And, of course, his response to the crowd: "Hijos de puta!"

However, the divorce is nothing new. As the journalist Jesus Gallego explains in his article in Diario AS, the jeers aimed at Ronaldo began four years ago in a game against Granada. "Then he had still not consecrated himself as the club's badge. He'd hardly won any titles in white and the shadow of Messi loomed large," writes the La Ser presenter.

Not even the titles won in the four years since then with Madrid (two Champions League among them), nor having won, on an individual level, three Ballon d'Ors have served for Ronaldo to win the unconditional support of Madrid fans. In fact, he's never felt loved by the fans like Messi is among Barcelonismo. And that's what hurts him most.

CLASH WITH PEREZ

Florentino Perez has not 'protected' Ronaldo as much as the Portuguese would have liked. The player still remembers a meeting with the president back in December of 2012. Ronaldo, who hours before had told the media he felt "sad", threatened to leave the club if his demands were not met. And Perez's response didn't please him: "If you leave, it brings in the money to sign Messi."

The comparisons with Messi have always been painful for Cristiano. In sporting and personal terms. Because, beyond his envy of the Argentine's success in the game, he cannot stand the unanimity which Messi generates among Barça fans. Basically, because he's not managed the same with Madrid.

FEAR IN THE AIR

What happened in the game against Real Sociedad has set off the alarms. At Real Madrid and, above all, among the people who create Ronaldo's environment. Everyone fears that the divorce could because a reality with the departure of Ronaldo, even though he has renewed his contract until 2021.

"You cannot whistle the flag," Gallego's article is titled. And he adds: "To boo him is to not recognise his structural role in the modern Madrid."

An editorial in Marca, too, looks at the division between Cristiano Ronaldo and Madridismo. The title is "And if everyone applauds?" and it assures that "in the dressing room they are convinced that with a better environment everything would be easier and that's what was going through Ronaldo's head when he heard the jeers after losing the ball."

Throughout history, the Bernabeu has been very demanding with its stars. Di Stefano, Butragueno, Casillas and even Zidane have all been on the end of whistles and jeers. And now, Madrid fans attack Cristiano, basically for parts of the Portuguese forward's attitudes which they're not fond of. Although it is also true that this season Sergio Ramos, Benzema and Danilo have also been on the receiving end...
