According to El Mundo investigators are in an 'advanced' investigation Cristiano Ronaldo's alleged discrepancies.
They say it began in 2015 and if strong evidence is found of any illegal activity then it will be transferred to the prosecution, who would proceed from there.
It is claimed that Ronaldo evaded tax on as much as 150 million euros but his representatives, Gestifute, have strongly denied these claims.
Lionel Messi was sentenced to 21-months in jail for tax evasion in July this year but did not serve it because in Spain sentences under two-years for first time offenders are usually suspended.
