Madrid want the Chelsea fullback to offer competition to Marcelo, whereas Atletico want Alonso if Filipe Luis ends up at PSG

Marcos Alonso could be about to start a war between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. According to 'AS', the two clubs from Spain's capital are both interested in signing Chelsea's left back.

After coming through the youth academy at Real Madrid, they've always kept an eye on his development and now feel the time is right to bring the player back to the Bernabeu. He could compete for a starting place alongside Marcelo.

Julen Lopetegui was Alonso's coach when he was at Castilla and feels the Chelsea man could be the ideal reinforcement to the backline. His improvement at Chelsea has been noticeable and he's regarded as one of the best left backs in the Premier League.

Marcos also ticks all the boxes that Diego Simeone is looking for in a defender. This is because Filipe Luis is being linked with a switch to PSG and Simeone doesn't want to lose an important player without replacing him first. Alonso would be the perfect candidate to battle with Lucas Hernandez for a starting berth.

Signing Alonso won't be easy. The transfer window is closed in England so Sarri wouldn't be able to replace him

Since Chelsea paid Fiorentina €30m for Alonso's services, the player has more than proven his worth. Despite being a defender he's scored 14 goals for Chelsea and is a freekick specialist. He scored his last goal at the weekend in the 3-2 victory over Arsenal.

Despite the interest from the big Madrid clubs, the chances of Marcos Alonso leaving Chelsea appear remote. He's first choice at the London club and is valued highly by Maurizio Sarri. Plus the transfer window is already closed in England so they wouldn't be able to replace the left back. It would need to be a giant offer for Chelsea to even consider selling him at this stage.

Alonso is the son of former Racing, Barça, Atletico and Logroñes player Marcos Alonso Peña. His father also briefly managed Atletico. His grandfather, Marquitos, is a legend at Real Madrid after being part of the famous side which won five consecutive European Cups in the 50s.
