The visitors made an incredible shock at the Santiago Bernabeu

Real Madrid were stunned by Moldovan minnows Sheriff in a home defeat in the Champions League.

Back at the Bernabeu after a year and a half away in Europe, Los Blancos went down in the gunfight despite firing off plenty more rounds.

On other nights Madrid might have won, but something special was in the air for the visitors, who recorded one of the most shocking results in the competition’s history. After all, Madrid with 13 Champions League are the all time record winners.

Jasurbek Yakhshiboev's first-half header put the visitors in front but Karim Benzema levelled from the spot after Vinicius Junior was fouled.

The hosts dominated possession but with Sheriff’s third shot on goal, they scored again. This time in the 89th minute.

It was a bullet from Sebastien Thill, thrilling Sheriff and stunning Madrid. A beautiful strike which flew past Courtois and into the top corner.

Madrid’s win over Inter Milan means they aren’t sweating too much but they will have their tail between their legs for a while.
