Hundreds of Atletico fans despicably sung about Vinicius being a monkey before the game

Real Madrid's 2-1 derby win over Atletico Madrid at the Civitas Metropolitano on Sunday was soured by the racist chants aimed at Vinicius Jr, which LaLiga will take action against, it has been revealed.

Prior to Sunday's game, Tiempo de Juego released images of Atletico fans outside the stadium chanting: "You are a monkey, Vinicius you are a monkey."

There were continued whistles against Vinicius in the stadium, too, and chants of "Vinicius die" as the match was played.

Per the journalist Isaac Fouto, LaLiga will report the incidents to the Anti-Violence Committee, meaning both the racist chants outside the stadium before the game and the comments made inside the stadium later.

Upon learning of the racism before the match started, Atletico asked their fans to "support the team while showing respect to the rival."
