The Italian is not sure if he wants to take on the Bernabeu job

Antonio Conte's drifting away from Real Madrid despite negotiations being ongoing since Friday. On Sunday, the coach received the definitive call after the Clasico call but it's unlikely there will be an agreement based on the terms Madrid have put on the table.

It seems, according to sources close to the talks, Conte will only say yes if he's guaranteed a two-and-a-half year contract at the Bernabeu. Madrid want to include escape clauses at the end of each season.

The Italian coach has made it clear the situation at the club is not easy. Work needs to be done and he doesn't want to be blamed for a failed campaign. He wants a long-term project, not to just be smokescreen of the current crisis of results. For that reason, he would only sign a long deal. If they sack him, the club would then have to pay the remainder of his deal, something they're not keen on, which shows there's already a lack of confidence in Conte.

For now, talks are at the point of breaking down and it seems there's no understanding, although they remain ongoing at the moment. They will continue to talk and, in the meantime, Solari will take over first team duties from Julen Lopetegui on a provisional basis.
