Conte closes the door on Hazard moving to Real Madrid
The two previously worked together at Chelsea for two seasons
Antonio Conte could be announced as Real Madrid's new coach on Monday, replacing Julen Lopetegui, who is set to be fired following a third straight loss in La Liga -- a 5-1 hammering at Camp Nou against Barcelona.
Lopetegui could be sacked at any moment but the arrival of Conte could end -- for the moment -- Madrid's hopes of landing Eden Hazard. The Belgian forward is wanted by Florentino Perez to cover the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo. But his relationship with Conte could make that tricky.
The two worked together for two years at Chelsea and Hazard criticised his former coach after a game against Bournemouth earlier in the current campaign.
"There's no comparison between [new coach] Sarri and Conte," he said. "With Sarri we have the ball much more, I feel more comfortable."
Hazard was not comfortable with the role and position he was asked to play by Conte. If the Italian's appointment at Madrid is made official, it could make Los Blancos' dream of landing Hazard wait...
