Paco Alcácer is joining Borussia Dortmund on loan and the general feeling is that he was failure at Barça. However the stats show that the Valencia-born striker hasn't been that bad.. when he was given the opportunity. In fact, Alcacer has fulfilled the role which he was handed to perfection: play backup to Luis Suarez. The problem is that he was never a true rival to the Uruguayan, who was an ever-present alongside Messi. Even then, Alcacer's record isn't bad at all: he's scored 15 goals in the 22 matches he started. That's an average of 0.68 goals per match. A record which is more than acceptable for a player who never truly convinced Luis Enrique or Ernesto Valverde.

Alcacer was a victim of the poor summer recruitment in 2016, when Barça signed six players and only one of them is now a starter: Samuel Umtiti. Denis Suarez and Cillessen are backups but very clearly backups. Digne has been sold to Everton, whilst Andre Gomes and Alcacer have left on loan. Of that €130m investment, only the €25m for the French centre back was worth it. The striker hasn't been as bad as Andre Gomes, however his report card will still be marked with an 'F' for failure.

It'll be difficult for Alcacer to succeed at Barcelona even if he is still young - he's just about to turn 25. And who knows, maybe this loan will see him play and score goals which could open the door for a Camp Nou return. It's very difficult, but not impossible, as Alcacer isn't anywhere near as bad as he's made out to be..
