Pique leaves the Spanish national team after yet another attack on him
The most rancid and pathetic part of Spanish media, the most anti-democratic and anti-Catalan, has reached it's despicable objective - Gerard Pique leaving the Spanish national team. The Barcelona defender, fed up of the attacks made on him in recent years, said enough and will leave after the 2018 World Cup. Although it can't be ruled out that he will leave before that.
The absurd and false controversy over the shirt sleeves on Sunday was the final straw and Pique's patience has run out. His only fault is being Catalan and wanting the right to vote for his future. He has not commited the 'crime' of even declaring himself an 'independentista'.
The intolerance that has been shown by a big part of the Spanish media (not all) towards the process Catalunya is going through has the objective of wearing down those who in one way or another, back the idea of a referendum. They persecuted the former president of Catalunya, Artur Mas, they have gone after businessmen, journalists, and now sports stars.
The disgrace of this campaign is only comparable to the political persecution of fascist regimes. And this, in the 21st century, is even more sickening. And it speaks very little of the 'intelligence' of those who organise the campaign and those who follow it as ignorant sheep.
Pique has paid the price for their demagogic savagery. Those who rejoice his resignation will no longer be able to enjoy the best centre-back in Spanish football history, who has always defended the jersey with scrupulous professionalism. This is what they deserve.
