The Club World Cup is a joke

Ivan San Antonio
| REAL MADRID

A title is a title, but there are titles, little titles, tiny titles and then comes the Club World Cup. The farce organised by FIFA and won by Real Madrid is one of those jokes that your brother-in-law makes on Christmas Eve that makes the diners grimace because nobody understands it. The tournament held in Morocco is a football scam promoted by those who decide what, when and how those who assume all the risk of an industry they nourish by paying for everything so that the bosses can continue to enjoy their lucrative toy.

The final between Real Madrid and the mighty Al Hilal, the best club on the Asian continent (that's the level we're talking about) can only be understood from a speculative point of view. In other words, this tournament, much less attractive than any of the summer tournaments played in Spain, serves no purpose. Of course, it doesn't even deserve to pose among the many trophies that are displayed at the Bernabéu, but it shouldn't even be added to the list of trophies on the website.

The Club World Cup is an insult to intelligence, to good footballing taste. It is even disrespectful to players like Modric, Benzema or Alaba, who have won everything. Also for Ancelotti and his son. This tournament is just a crude excuse for FIFA to continue lining its pockets at the expense of the clubs' efforts. Reviewing the list of winners, overwhelmingly dominated by the European champions, is the best way to confirm the meaninglessness of this joke in which the same people always win, those who wear expensive suits and fancy ties in the boxes.
