There were people laughing about Yerry Mina after his six performances in a Barcelona shirt. It was evident he didn't understand the system at the club or the role Ernesto Valverde wanted him to fulfil. Mina doesn't fit Barça's profile of a centre back and if he continues at the club will need a long period of adaptation before he reaches a good level. Playing for Barcelona is completely different to playing with any other club. At another team you're more protected or the defenders don't need to be so fast, or have such high levels of anticipation.

In saying that, there's a middle ground between his real value and the laughter which was heard when he arrived. Mina is a huge defender, well trained and could become one of the best defenders in the world. Pep Segura, the man who pushed for the move, showed that he was right in making the deal to sign Mina because his value has already tripled after six months at the club. It wasn't easy because Mina needed to swim against the tide in a Barcelona shirt. However, at the World Cup, Mina showed everybody his ability to defend as well as the threat he carries in attack.
