Messi mayhem! Ex-Barça star scores last minute winner on his Miami debut

Lionel Messi continues to be decisive. The Argentina forward was the match-winner on his Inter Miami debut against Mexican side Cruz Azul with a spectacular free-kick in the 94th minute to seal a 2-1 win in the Leagues Cup.

The former Barcelona player caused Inter's Miami stadium to fill its 22,000 seats to see his debut in the United States. Among the attendees, were illustrious basketball stars such as Lebron James, Inter co-owner David Beckham and model Kim Kardashian.

Messi was not a starter because he is still not at one hundred percent, but he came on in the 54th minute, causing madness in the stands.

As soon as he entered the pitch, he received the captain's armband of the team coached by Gerardo Martino. His team was leading by 1-0 thanks to a goal by Taylor in the last minute of the first half that Messi celebrated from the bench.

After Messi and Sergio Busquets, who came on a minute after the Argentinian, were introduced, Cruz Azul equalised with a goal from Uriel Antuna.

As the match was about to go to penalties, which award two points to the winner of the shootout and one to the loser, Messi gave Martino's side all three points with a great free-kick.

His long-range left-footed set piece beat a helpless Andres Gudino to send the DRV PNK Stadium in Miami into euphoria.
