The first coach to be sacked in La Liga has not taken long to fall. Villarreal has officially announced that Quique Setién is no longer the head coach of the first team at the Ceramica.

The 'yellow submarine' has issued a statement in which they have announced the departure of the Cantabrian coach. Villarreal has emphasized the "great professionalism and commitment" of the Spanish coach.

"With the Cantabrian coach, the team had a great season, promoting many young players from the academy, and secured a place in the UEFA Europa League by finishing fifth in La Liga," the statement noted.

They have also thanked Setién for "his work and dedication" and wished him "the best of luck in his sporting career."

Villarreal has also announced that the club's director of football, Miguel Ángel Tena, will assume the position on an interim basis and will lead the team's training session tomorrow. At the moment, the frontrunner to replace Setién appears to be Julen Lopetegui, who is currently without a club after leaving Wolverhampton.
