Diego Costa facing eight-game ban for Camp Nou red card
Costa was dismissed for insulting referee Gil Manzano
Diego Costa's red card at Camp Nou against Barcelona last Saturday could end up costing the Atletico Madrid forward dearly. According to COPE and Radio Marca, the COmpetition Committee will come down hard on Costa.
Referee Gil Manzano has reaffirmed what he wrote in the match report and the Refereeing Committee have audio of the incident. In said audio, it seems you can clearly hear Costa's insult to the referee: "Me cago en tu puta madre" ("I shit on your whore mother").
Costa's insult, which he repeated, led to a direct red card in the 28th minute, leaving Atletico with an hour to play with 10 men. It was goalless at the time but Barça went on to win 2-0 with goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.
The Competition Committeee could hand the Hispanic-Brazilian striker an eight game ban: four for the insult and another four for grabbing Manzano. It could spell the end of his season and be the motive for a period of deep reflection.
