A world record crowd saw Barcelona book their place in the last four of the Champions League

Barcelona beat Real Madrid 5-2 in front of a world record crowd on Wednesday to book their place in the Champions League semifinal.

A crowd of 91,553 filled Camp Nou as Barça broke the previous record attendance for a women's game, which was set in 1999 when 90,185 fans watched the World Cup final between the United States and China at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Mapi Leon gave Barça an early lead but Madrid fought back to make it 4-3 on aggregate after the Blaugrana's 3-1 win in the capital last week.

The threat of a comeback seemed to spur Barça into life though and Aitana Bonmati soon levelled on the night before Claudi Pina gave them the lead.

Captain and Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas added the fourth and Carolina Graham Hansen made it five late on.

Barca have already won the Primera Division and the Spanish Supercopa this season and now have their sights on retaining the Champions League and the Copa de la Reina.

Madrid competed over the two legs but Barça ultimately proved strong for them over 180 minutes, with tougher tasks likely to lay ahead in the competition.
