Philippe has not beaten Real Madrid with three attempts for Liverpool and Espanyol

Barcelona's game with Real Madrid on Sunday might seem like it does not matter as the league title has already been won, but the Clasico still makes plenty of players highly motivated.

One such player is Philippe Coutinho who is in brilliant form at the moment and is set to play his first Clasico.

Coutinho swapped Anfield for the Camp Nou in January and is ready to face Madrid, who he has never beaten before.

THRASHED IN MADRID

Coutinho has played against Real Madrid three times.

The first was when he played for Espanyol in 2011/12 when he was on loan from Inter Milan. It was not a happy first game against Los Blancos, though, as his side were thrashed 5-0 with goals from Cristiano, Khedira, Higuain (two goals) and Kaka.

Three seasons later, Coutinho met Madrid as a Liverpool player in the Champions League group stage in 2014/15 and his side were crushed 3-0 at Anfield, with Ronaldo opening the scoring and Benzema bagging two goals.

Liverpool then travelled to the Santiago Bernabeu, where they were beaten 1-0, although Coutinho only came on for the last 15 minutes in Madrid.

TALISMAN, AND A TREBLE?

Coutinho has already won the double with Barça but he could win a most curious treble, if Liverpool go on to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev.

A Liverpool victory against Zinedine Zidane's side would see Coutinho earn a medal, as he participated in Liverpool's group stage games,  meaning he was banned from playing in the Champions League for Barça.
