Barça player ratings: Ter Stegen, Semedo & Pique do well in defeat
Setien's side played well in the first half but struggled after the break
Barcelona went down 2-0 at the Bernabeu on Sunday with Real Madrid's goals coming from Vinicius and Mariano in the final 20 minutes.
Here are the player ratings:
Ter Stegen, 8
Only involved with his feet in the first 55 minutes but then came into the game. Made really good saves from Isco. One especially so. But he could do nothing about Vinicius and Mariano. Deserved more.
Semedo, 8
From the first minute, he was involved in a spectacular dual with Vinicius. Was able to stop him early on and was also brilliant in attack. Only erred with the Brazilian once and it ended in a goal.
Pique, 8
Impressive, cutting out high balls, low balls... Led the defence. Cleared off the line from Isco. He tried to stop Vinicius' goal but ended up turning it past his goalkeeper.
Umtiti, 6
He played it quickly and easily when he had the ball. Caught out by Mariano for the second goal.
Alba, 6
He started cautiously following recent injury but soon returned to his old levels of intensity. Booked for a clash with Carvajal but set up a good Griezmann chance. Tired badly in the second half.
Busquets, 7
Was the start of everything, the link between defence and attack with clever, precise passes.
De Jong, 6
Knew when to insert pace into the game and when to use some pausa. Fierce in defence, moved with intent. However, his influence dipped as the game progressed.
Arthur 7
The ball stuck to his foot in the first half. Denied by Courtois in the first half but suffered after the break when Madrid's pressing improved.
Vidal, 6
Helped create space for Semedo on the right and didn't make things difficult for himself. Taken off in the 70th minute.
Messi, 7
Silenced the Bernabeu when he got the ball. Always looked to the left, to Alba. Forced a great save from Courtois in the first half but lacked clarity in front of goal. Rare for him.
Griezmann, 6
From the start tried to link with his teammates and didn't stop creating space for Messi, Alba and Vidal. Wasted his best chance, though.

Solo entró en juego con los pies, siempre bien, siempre preciso y generador, hasta el minuto 55, cuando voló para poner la mano a un disparo de Isco que iba a la cruceta. Paradón. Pero nada pudo hacer ante Vinicius y Mariano. Demasiado castigo.
Desde el primer minuto protagonizó un duelo espectacular con Vinicius. Supo frenarle y, además, le exigió cuando subía al ataque. El portugués forzó una amarilla para el madridista. Solo erró una vez ante el brasileño y acabó en gol.
Impresionante por alto, por bajo, cortando, secando... El líder de la defensa. Además, salió jugando con criterio. El Bernabéu y sus pitos sacan lo mejor del central. Evitó un gol de Isco en la línea. Intentó evitar el gol de Vinicius y acabó siendo clave para que subiera al marcador.
No se complicó la vida, jugó fácil y sacó rápido. Necesitó mantener siempre la tensión ante los movimientos constantes de Benzema. Mariano le retrató en el segundo del Madrid.
Arrancó algo cauto porque salía de una lesión, pero pronto empezó a mostrarse intenso. Vio la amarilla tras un conato de pelea con Carvajal. Asistió a Griezmann, que erró solo en el área. Acabó agotado por salir de una lesión y la segunda mitad fue floja.
Fue el inicio de todo, el nexo de unión entre el centro del campo y el ataque, al que nutrió con pases milimétricos que rompían líneas. Exhibición de recursos y clase que no tuvo continuidad en la segunda, donde sufrio muchísimo.
Supo dar velocidad o pausa dependiendo del momento. Feroz en defensa, movió con criterio y astucia desde la posición de interior izquierdo. Su influencia, sin embargo, bajó mucho en la segunda mitad.
El balón parece engancharse a sus botas cuando pasa por él. No sabe perderlo y ofrece soluciones sin fin a sus compañeros. Es pura frescura para la medular. Courtois le ganó un uno contra uno. En la segunda sufrió porque el Madrid apretó mucho más y tuvo que ser cambiado. El físico no le da para noventa minutos.
Participó mucho tocando en corto y habilitando las subidas de Semedo. Buscó no complicarse la vida nunca, pero no es el más técnico de la plantilla y sufre con el blaón. Desafina la partitura del resto.
Cuando le llega el balón, se hace el silencio en el Bernabéu. Miró siempre a su izquierda, buscando a Alba, pero jugó arropado por sus compañeros, que le buscaron constantemente. Forzó un paradón de Courtois llegando desde atrás. Casemiro no le dejó respirar. Le faltó claridad ante puerta. Raro en él.
Desde el centro del ataque tiró infinidad de paredes y no paró de generar espacios para las llegadas de Messi, Alba o Vidal. Jugó siempre que pudo a un toque y remató alto un centro de Alba. Se apagó con el paso de los minutos. Hay que pedirle más.
Salió en el minuto 70 y, nada más entrar, tuvo un mano a mano con Courtois que el belga salvó. Pura verticalidad y profundidad.
Jugó el último cuarto de hora, con ventaja en el marcador para el Real Madrid. Tocaba jugársela con otro delantero. No entró demasiado en juego.
Entró para oxigenar el centro del campo porque Arthur estaba fundido y pedía a gritos el cambio. Pero aportó poco, más bien nada.
