Real Madrid 1-1 Man City: De Bruyne beauty cancels out Vinicius' stunner

It is all to play for when the teams meet in the Champions League semifinal second leg next week

Vinicius Jr and Kevin de Bruyne exchanged wonder goals as Real Madrid and Manchester City drew 1-1 in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal on Tuesday.

Vinicius opened the scoring against the run of play in the first half at the Santiago Bernabeu with a belter from the edge of the box.

But De Bruyne's second-half strike ensured the second leg in Manchester next Wednesday will start level, with the winners meeting either Milan or Inter in the final.

City started well in Madrid but couldn't create any really good chances. The occasions they did make were easily saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Madrid were always going to carry a threat on the break and that proved so in the 36th minute when Eduardo Camavinga carried the ball forward to set up Vinicius for the opener.

Courtois made two saves from De Bruyne at the start of the second half and only a brilliant block from David Alaba kept Erling Haaland out.

De Bruyne eventually levelled in the 67th minute, firing in from just outside of the box to level the tie.

Madrid pressed harder in the final 20 minutes but found Ederson in fine form in the visiting goal.

The Brazilian did well to keep out a header from Karim Benzema and then, in stoppage time, tipped a rasping effort from Aurelien Tchouameni over the bar.

All to play for in Manchester next week.
