Los Blancos were lucky to get away with some acts of aggression in the Champions League game

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola complained loud and clear on the Santiago Bernabéu pitch about Real Madrid's excessive aggression in certain defensive actions during the first half of Tuesday's 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal.

He was right. Madrid's players used too much force at times in defensive one on ones, especially in three actions over which Pep exploded with his protests.

The first of the complaints was for an elbow by Rüdiger on Gündogan where the referee decided not to even call a foul. In the end, he had to stop the game, though, due to the continuous complaints from the German midfielder, who was left lying on the pitch for a few seconds.

Gündogan again would later receive a very nasty tackle from Kroos at hip level and with no chance to get to the ball. This time, the Madrid man was shown a yellow card for his challenge.

Real Madrid's other act of aggression came from Dani Carvajal. On a ball that no longer carried any danger and in which Grealish had little to gain, the full-back decided to make a 'legal charge' and smash the Englishman into one of the advertising hoardings that decorate the Santiago Bernabéu pitch.

Grealish, unsurprisingly, was annoyed by the action, and when Carvajal wanted to pick him up, he slapped his hand away. To round off his performance, the Spain defender decided to throw himself to the ground, feigning a very harsh aggression from the Englishman.
