Valverde says the defender's not available for Espanyol game

The coach hopes to he will be able to make his Barça debut soon

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde announced that Yerry Mina does still not have international clearance to make his debut for the club.

Therefore, The Colombian defeder, who joined from Palmeiras last week, will not be available for Wednesday's Copa del Rey quarterfinal first leg against Espanyol.

"Yerry Mina still doesn't have the transfer [clearance] through and can't play on Wednesday," Valverde confirmed.

Asked if he would have played Mina otherwise, he added: "If he had the clearance, I don't know if he would have featured, but I don't want to waste time on conjecture.

"Yerry Mina has started well at the club, he's brought a lot of joy and his teammates have given him a warm welcome. We think he can add things to the group.

"Down the line, the competitive games will come and then there’s the competition to get in the team, which is what counts, so we will see how he does.

"We have a lot of confidence in him and believe he can have a long career here. It will depend on his performances, of course, which we will see on the pitch soon."
