The coach is happy with the players he has available

Neither Mascherano or Umtiti are fit for Sporting game

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde didn't give too much importance to the teams injuries in defence, with both Javier Mascherano and Samuel Umtiti currently sidelined.

"Every time a player has come into the side, they've responded well and it won't be different [this time]," Valverde said.

"The reality is what it is: the reality is that every time someone's got injured, a teammate's come in and responded. I don't think it will be any different now. Those that come in will do well.

"You get different moments throughout a season and the squad has to be ready to provide the solutions. I don't have any doubts about what we will do. Is there a prole,? Well, we will find a solution."

Valverde also said that Lucas Digne or Sergio Busquets could be used as central defenders.

On the chances of signing a new centre-back in January, he said that he is "happy" with the squad he currently has available.

“We have time to assess if we need to sign a centre-back [in January]," he added. "When you get injuries, there’s always talk but, in principle, we’re happy with the centre-backs we have got. We will have to see.”
