Tottenham sounded out Jordi Cruyff for sporting director position

The former Barça man wants to return to coaching, not an office role

When Jordi Cruyff announced that he was stepping down as Barcelona's sporting director, it was only a few days before he received the first job offers.

His international experience and his good work at the Blaugrana, where he put his stamp on signings such as Christensen and Gündogan, have helped him to open many more doors than those he had already had open before accepting Joan Laporta's appointment.

Tottenham were one of the clubs that showed interest in him and sounded him out to become their next sporting director.

The Londoners contacted Cruyff to let him know their plans, but the former Culé executive took very little time to respond. Beyond thanking them for the proposal, he let them know that his intention is to return to the bench and that, for the moment, he is not in the mood to add another experience to his career as a sporting architect from the offices.

In fact, it is not the first time he has been called from England.

Cruyff feels that he needs to continue to develop as a coach and, unless he changes his mind, his next destination will be related to the bench, which has reawakened his interest after his experiences in Israel, China and Ecuador.
