Rafa Nadal's uncle and former coach will have a role at Camp Nou under Font

Toni Nadal will join Barcelona if Victor Font becomes the next president at Camp Nou, the campaign Si al Futur announced on Friday.

Nadal was the coach to tennis great Rafael Nadal, who is his nephew, for a number of years and would bring elite-level sport experience and know-how to the club.

He is also a Barcelona fan -- and a socio -- and his brother played for the Catalan club during the 1990s.

A statement from Si al Futur, the campaign behind Font, confirmed: "Toni Nadal (Manacor, Majorca, 1961), with Barça membership number 63964, will be part of Sí al Futur‘s candidacy for the next elections to the presidency of FC Barcelona.

"Toni Nadal, who will join the sports area of the project led by Víctor Font, is the uncle and former coach of Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal and brother of Barça retired football player Miquel Àngel Nadal.

"An expert in managing adversity, values and self-improvement, he has been awarded the bronze medal of the Spanish Royal Order of Sports Merit 2007 and the Jaume II Award for his task as coach, educator, trainer and inspirer of Rafa Nadal’s successes."

"Messi cannot be unhappy"

Toni Nadal, after the news was announced, spoke about his involvement with Font on social media and in reference to Lionel Messi he said "it cannot be that the best players in history is unhappy and wants to leave. We have to create a climate so that he feels happy."

Font said: "It's an honour to count on a Barça socio like Toni to take on these challenges that we have ahead of us."
