Vermaelen, Murillo and Boateng have all been told they won't be needed and have either been released or returned to their parent clubs

FC Barcelona have shut the door on the 2018/2019 season and on the 30th June three players will officially end their time with the club. Thomas Vermaelen, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Jeison Murillo will all leave on that date.

Vermaelen is the only player from the first team to leave on a free transfer, putting an end to his five years at the Camp Nou. His stay has been blighted by injuries which prevented him from ever establishing himself in the first team. He spent a year on loan at Roma in the 2016/17 season.

At 33, the centre back is free to choose his next destination. Despite only making 53 appearances in his time at the club he's won 11 trophies: four LaLiga titles, four Copa del Reys, one Spanish Super Cup, a Champions League and a Club World Cup.

SENT BACK TO SENDER

Boateng and Murillo, two surprise loan signings in January, will return to their parent clubs. Neither have contributed much to Barça's season.

At 32 and having only played 305 minutes across four matches, Barça have refused to take up the option to sign Boateng. He'll go back to Sassuolo.

Murillo will also return to Valencia. Once again Barça had an option to make the move permanent but he only featured in four matches. He turned 27 today and the club tweeted their best wishes to him. Some fans could be forgiven for forgetting he was even at Barça.
