Luis Enrique's side were a shadow of themselves in the first half

A number of factors contributed to another Champions League loss on the road

Barcelona's performance in Turin was not the first time Luis Enrique's side have looked weak and vulnerable. But the most severe thing about the defeat was the sensations it left. The team is going into the final stage of the season filled with doubts.

Here are the four keys to the loss to Juventus in the Champions League:

1. THE LINE-UP

It was not a match for expirements of unnecessary risks. Juve's numbers provoke fear and being at home meant they were always the favourites in the first leg. Barcelona's line-up, then did not help. Nor the system. The 3-4-3 left space at the back, with Mathieu struggling and Rakitic's position not clear.

2. NO INTENSITY

Barça did not have the necessary concentration or intensity this match required. They did not mark their territory, especially at the back. In the third minute, they were already pinned back and allowed Higuaion a chance. And then in the seventh minute, when Cuadrado got the better of Mathieu, Dybala deservedly opened the scoring. The Argentine, despite the presence of Iniesta and Pique, had too much time and space.

3. OFF-COLOUR TRIDENT

The trident once again failed to score in Turin, as they had done in Malaga. Neither Messi, Suarez nor Neymar were able to mark the difference in a game when they had to be at their best. Messi was the best of the three, creating two great chances and having a goal ruled out. Suarez, meanwhile, fought hard but lacked quality and composure. Neymar, finally, was kept quiet by Cuadrado and Alves.

4. SHORT SQUAD

The team needed depth to react. However, Luis Enrique didn't even believe in his own bench. He only brought on Andre Gomes, replacing Mathieu at half-time. However, there were no more changes, partly due to injuries (Rafinha, Arda Turan, Vidal) and suspensions (Busquets), and Barça must be concerned about the contribution from their squad players.
