The Barça squad vote to keep Lionel Messi as club captain this season
It wasn't decided by age or time spent at the club but a simple vote between the current first team squad
The FC Barcelona squad have voted for their captain ahead of the 2020/21 season and it is Lionel Messi again. The decision didn't come because of his long-standing at the club but rather a simple, open vote amongst the squad.
This means that Leo Messi, who asked to leave only a few weeks ago, will wear the armband next season. Something he has done ever since Andres Iniesta left the club.
In fact, the group of captains - and it's order - is exactly the same as it was last season: Messi, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué and Sergi Roberto.
All four players are La Masia graduates and it will be the third season in a row that Busquets is the vice-captain.
