The first time Robert Fernandez sat down with Josep Maria Bartomeu, Jordi Mestre, Javier Bordas and Albert Soler he told them it was not the right time to take on the sporting director role at Barcelona. 

He was flattered and honoured at the interest, but after putting himself in the skin of the manager, Luis Enrique, and the players (as he once was) he decided to wait. 

With the treble followed by Bartomeu winning the elections in 2015, talks began again. This time, there was a happy ending and Robert took on the job, returning to Camp Nou. 

Robert signed for two years with the option of a third and SPORT can now reveal that clause will be executed and he will renew until Jun. 30, 2018 soon. 

Barça are delighed with his work and his philosophy. "Calm and relaxed," is his favourite phrase and he uses it regularly. 

Now, all eyes are fixed on finding a replacement for Luis Enrique, a task which Robert says he is personally responsible for. However, he's in no rush to make an announcement. Calm and relaxed...
