A signing that sets the trend: Barça tie down Argentine Lucas Román

Barcelona have moved quickly before other big European sides got a sniff

Barça Atlètic will this month sign the Argentine striker Lucas Román, 18, from Ferro Carril, for whom €1.2 million will be paid.

The promising left-footed No.9 can also play as a winger and plays for Argentina U20s, coached by Javier Mascherano. Roman stands out for his technical skills and his finishing.

Barça moved quickly to do the deal, showing that, despite financial limitations, interesting operations can be carried out in South America to tie up talent before it explodes and attracts the attention of the big European teams (read Manchester City, who shoot at everything that moves), with whom it is not possible to compete right now.

Barça's great triumph in signing 'Pocho' is having beaten River Plate, who in recent seasons has become the best springboard for Argentine players to go to Europe, which is exemplified in two recent cases: the of Enzo Fernández, the best young footballer of the last World Cup valued at €120m by Benfica; and that of the striker Julián Álvarez, who has gone from being led by the best coach on his continent, the 'Muñeco' Gallardo, to the best coach on the planet, Pep Guardiola.
