Ruben Neves would love Barca switch as club decide what to do
The Portuguese midfielder spoke about the Catalan club's interest as speculation mounts
Barcelona are working on a list of options to reinforce the midfield. Sergio Busquets potentially leaving in the summer makes it a priority to reinforce the position. Two names linked are Real Sociedad’s Zubimendi and Ruben Neves of Wolves.
Even as early as January Barcelona could move for a midfielder, even though De Jong played well there against Villarreal.
“Who wouldn’t want to play at Barcelona? I think that’s a question any footballer would ask himself,” said Neves when speaking to Canal11.
“It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. Of course, it’s always a privilege for me to be associated with clubs of this calibre.”
It’s one of the big decisions that the club have to take in the coming months. Also of the hardest, because they cannot miss.
If Busquets leaves, there are various scenarios to consider. One is betting on De Jong and having Nico as the reserve. Another is signing a Neves or Zubimendi.
In this sense De Jong’s role until the end of the season will be key. The Dutchman has another factor against him - Xavi has not forgotten about Bernardo Silva.
