Real Madrid's fruitless attempts to sign Pablo Torre

The Racing Santander midfielder is a hot prospect and has been in the goals

FC Barcelona on March 4 announced the signing of Pablo Torre, one of Spanish football’s pearls. The good work from the sports department ended up with a 5m bid accepted by Racing Santander, with variables that could reach 20m. He will sign a deal until June 2026 with a 100m release clause.

Discretion and hard work were the keys to getting the deal done because Real Madrid were after him too. Real Madrid tried until the end for Pablo Torre but the movements were not fruitful.

Racing Santander’s president Alfredo Perez Fernandez called Barcelona’s Mateu Alemany, asking to raise the offer because Madrid were offering more, but that was fruitless too.

Despite the pressure, Alemany was inflexible. He had arguments not to give in. He did not raise the offer because he did not think the situation was dangerous for Barcelona. He had everything locked down with the player. The Catalans offered Torre more years on the deal than Madrid and a detailed career path with Barca B but also the first team dynamic. If his performance is good it won’t take him long to rise.

Xavi’s chat with him was also decisive. The coach showed he knew his game, his virtues and defects and that he could get more from him. That for Torre was a decisive factor to say yes. However many calls Madrid made, offering more money.
