The French club released a statement on Monday night

Paris Saint-Germain said on Monday that they would take action against Neymar after he failed to return to preseason as he looks to force a move to Barcelona.

While in France they didn't expect Neymar in this week due to his status as a Brazil international at the Copa America -- even though he missed the tournament injured -- PSG have released a statement lamenting his no show and promising disciplinary proceedings.

"On Monday 8 July, Neymar was due to return to preseason activities with the PSG senior squad," the club said. "PSG notes that Neymar was not in attendance at the agreed time and place.

"This was without the club's prior authorisation. The club regrets this situation and will, therefore, take appropriate action."

While the rest of the Brazil internationals at PSG are off until August 5, due to the Copa America, which they won on Sunday, PSG don't consider Neymar part of that group as he got injured in a warmup game against Qatar.

That game took place on June 6 and PSG consider that Neymar's holidays began on that day and he should have been back in Paris to join up with Thomas Tuchel's team on Monday.

It's the latest step as Neymar looks to leave the club and force owner Nasser Al Kelaïffi's hand. The PSG chief has already warned the Brazilian that he will no longer tolerate his 'star' behaviour.

Al Khelaïfi already knows Neymar wants out. He has two options: 1) to make life impossible for him like he did with Adrien Rabiot, who was inactive for six months after refusing to extend his contract or 2) open negotiations with Barça and study the offer taken to them by agent Pini Zahavi.

Neymar's doing all he can to make his return to Camp Nou a reality.
