PSG president Al Khelaïfi: "Every club wanted to sign Lewandowski"

The Polish striker joined Barça from Bayern Munich in 2022

While Barça went to great lengths to convince Bayern Munich to sell Robert Lewandowski to them, PSG stayed in the background waiting to see if they would finally fail so they could bring the Polish striker to Paris.

It was the summer of 2022 and the Parisians wanted to bring Messi, Mbappé, Neymar and Lewandowski together in the same squad to form a lethal attack. But 'Lewy's' desire was only to wear the Blaugrana shirt and he was patient enough for Barça to raise the money and present an offer that convinced the Germans.

It will perhaps never be known to what extent PSG fought for the Pole's signature and whether they put a lot of money on the table to try to change his mind. Nasser Al Khelaïfi did not want to reveal it, although he did admit that Lewandowski seems to him to be a top-class player and that they were interested in him.

"I have a policy of not talking about players who are not at PSG and about transfers that will happen or were supposed to happen," the PSG president said in an interview with Meczyki.

"But it's no secret that Robert is an incredible striker. Every club in the world looked at him and at some point thought about signing him. But Robert is at Barcelona today and I respect him.

"There weren't many snipers like that who scored goals in almost every game. Goal-scoring machine. And a great guy. We met and I can only speak very highly of him."
