Portuguese side Porto show interest in Barcelona midfielder Nico Gonzalez

| sport

Nico could be available again this summer after spending last season on loan at Valencia

Reports in Portugal say that FC Porto are interested in acquiring the services of Barcelona midfielder Nico Gonzalez.

Nico, who has been on loan at Valencia this past season, has not yet defined his future. It depends, to a large extent, on the arrivals and departures that may occur at Barça.

For the moment, Ilkay Gündogan has signed, a profile that acts in the same demarcation as Nico. Especially because Xavi Hernández doesn't see Nico as a pivot.

Already in the squad are Gavi, Pedri, Franck Kessie and Frenkie de Jong. The idea is to bring in a more positional defensive midfielder. However, if this investment is not made, the context could change.

URIBE EXIT

Sources have confirmed to SPORT that Porto have already contacted Jorge Mendes. Nico's agent, to sound out the player's situation. The Portuguese club have lost a very important player, Mateus Uribe, who has left for Al-Sadd in Saudi Arabia.

In any case, the club presided over by Pinto da Costa would think of Nico more as a reinforcement at No.8, a midfielder, than as a natural replacement for Uribe.

Therefore, he is not the main priority right now, but he is of great interest. The idea would be on loan, as it is not clear whether Barça would accept a transfer this summer or prefer to continue loaning him out.

BRUNO COSTA WILL LEAVE AS WELL

In principle, Bruno Costa will also leave Porto, which would leave another gap in that position. Porto are not in a hurry and it is an addition that is not a problem to leave it for the end of the market. Something that, seeing how the evolution of the 'mercato' at Can Barça can be, could end up matching.
