Miralem Pjanic starts and impresses against Athletic

The Bosnian only lasted 65 minutes but he was bright against the Basques

Ronald Koeman had to put Miralem Pjanic in the team against Athletic as Sergio Busquets was suspended. He’s not been important for the coach this season, starting just three league games and finishing one of those.

The Bosnian had a great first half, batting with Vencedor and Dani Garcia, measuring himself well to help his team-mates start attacks or bring the ball out. He also did well defensively too.

He was also involved in one of the more more curious moments of the first half, when his shot was deflected towards goal by Messi deliberately, with his chest. He helped Barca move the ball quickly, without mistakes. He’s progressing in that regard.

Pjanic also adapts well to Koeman’s tactical changes during games.

He came close to a goal with a header from Griezmann’s cross, but Unai Simon saved it well. It was one of his best games for the club - but Koeman didn’t necessarily see it like that, taking him off in the 65th minute.
