He lost in matches played in Murcia and Madrid (2-1), but won 4-1 in Buenos Aires
Lionel Messi has faced Spain on three occasions with Argentina. He has one win, two defeats, two goals. On Tuesday at the Wanda Metropolitano, they meet again.
Messi's first game against Spain was in Murcia on October 11 2006 in a friendly, with Spain winning 2-1. Messi started and played 61 minutes under Alfio Basile.
The second game was in 2009, Nov 14, in Madrid. Spain won again by the same score against Diego Maradona's Argentina. Messi scored to level, after starting. He played for 90 minutes.
The last time the teams met was another friendly, this time in Buenos Aires. The team, led by Sergio Batista, smashed Spain 4-1 with Messi scoring one, beating Pepe Reina again.
Messi will play his 124th game if he features for Argentina, which he will if fit enough, and will look to add to his 61 goals.
