Koeman's warning for Pique after RFEF open investigation into ref comments

The Dutchman said you have "to be careful because you can get into trouble over the smallest things"

Ronald Koeman comments on the RFEF's investigation into Gerard Pique's comments about referees subconciously favouring Real Madrid in Spain.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's game against Alaves (Camp Nou, 21h CET), the Dutch coach said "it's not my problem, well, it will be if they ban him for what he said, but I won't get involved.

"Pique's responsible and experienced enough to say (what he thinks). We have to be careful because you can get into trouble over the smallest things. You have to try and be critical but always with respect and words that they can't do anything about."

Koeman spoke from experience as he had also been in the limelight this season for comments about officials in Spain, especially the implementation of VAR.

However, the investigation into comments made by the Barça boss never went further than that as it was felt he hadn't attacked the refereeing community.

In Pique's case, the RFEF decided to open an investigation with a view to a fine or a ban after he told DjMariio that the fact 85 percent of refs favour Madrid has an effect on decisions.
