Even Koeman turned down chance to sign Kessie for Barcelona

The Milan midfielder has been repeatedly offered to Barça and is free in the summer

A lot is being said recently about Barcelona adding a midfielder to their squad in the summer. The only reality right now is that the coach, Xavi Hernandez, is prioritising defence and attack ahead of the summer window and a midfielder will only be signed if an opportunity that can't be turned down comes up.

The profiles that are appearing are physical options to replace Sergio Busquets as the defensive midfielder. Similar to the signings demanded by Ronald Koeman, who tried to bring in Wijnaldum, who ended up signing for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

One of the recurring names being linked with the club is Franck Kessie. The player is out of contract with Milan in the summer and has been repeatedly offered to Barça and various other clubs over the last few months with a view to landing the biggest possible deal.

Barça ruled him out during Koeman's tenure. They didn't feel he had the technical quality for the team's style. Now they're assessing Kessie as an option again, but it's hard to think he will be suited to Xavi's plans if Koeman didn't even want him. In any case, the amount of money being asked for will not be paid by Barça.
