The German international is out of contract next summer

Barça are looking at him as an alternative to Philippe Coutinho

Mesut Ozil has Barcelona as an option if he doesn't renew his contract with Arsenal. According to GOAL, Barça, along with Manchester United and Real Madrid, are the three alternatives for the German international.

Arsenal have still not made Ozil a firm offer since February when talks were postponed due to the doubts over Arsene Wenger's future. It was planned for negotiations to re-open at the beginning of the season.

FREE IN JUNE

Ozil's contract ends on June 30, 2018. From January he is free to sign a pre-contract with other clubs. Of course, Arsenal remains one of his options, too.

But Barcelona and United have shown an interest in signing him and Ozil would assess a return to Madrid if it was possible, although it seems unlikely he would join Zinedine Zidane's side given the competition in attacking midfield.

United coach Jose Mourinho knows Ozil well from his time at Madrid, but the player would be reluctant to move to Manchester.

Coutinho ALTERNATIVE

GOAL assure that Barça see him as an option if they fail to eventually sign Philippe Coutinho due to Liverpool's price demands.

Ozil's situation at Arsenal is not easy at the moment; he has been criticised by former players and commentators. Former defender Martin Keown said the German "didn't want" to travel to a game against BATE Borisov and that he had already "psychologically abandoned" the club.

However, Ozil's absence was due to a knee injury and Joachim Low decided to leave him out of the most recent Germany squad to allow him to recover.
