Fermín's breakthrough proves Barça must be brave with home-grown boys

He emerged like a hurricane in the match and scored a stunning goal showcasing exceptional ability.

Fermín became the main feature of the clásico against Madrid and was, without a doubt, the star of the day in the Blaugrana way. The fans like new signings, but they get a unique buzz when a home-grown player succeeds.

There is still a long way to go to know if Fermín can establish himself in the Blaugrana first team, but the latest examples invite hope.

Araujo, Gavi and Balde are three players who have multiplied their value a hundredfold and have become undisputed and international players in the blink of an eye.

The best moments in Barça's recent history have featured teams full of La Masia graduates. And, perhaps, the time has come to be brave again and go for a squad built of home-grown players.

It is undoubtedly a risky path, which requires a great deal of patience and which is not exempt from possible failures, especially in Europe, but signing expensive players does not guarantee anything either.

Whenever Barça, whether out of necessity or conviction, have relied on home-grown players, the measure has always brought sporting and financial success.

In an increasingly complicated and inflationary market, with player prices skyrocketing and competition from clubs with much greater financial muscle, Barça have no choice but to look downwards.

Undoubtedly, you can't only live off young players and the team must always maintain a balance, but the club would do well to have a non-negotiable quota of youth players in the first team. Only in this way would everything be more sustainable.

Fermín is just one example of many that come after him. It is clear that not all of them are good, but if you don't give them opportunities, you will never be able to test their quality. And if there is no space, there are plenty of clubs willing to pay a lot of money for players trained in La Masia, like Nico who has left for eight million euros. It's worth the effort.
