Final meeting between Rabiot and PSG to define future
The player is a Barcelona target and in January he is free to sign a contract with any club
The future of Adrien Rabiot is about to be defined.
Next week a final summit between the player and PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi is scheduled to decide on his renewal. It will be the final attempt of the Parisian club to retain the midfielder and the negotiations will be taken personally by Al Khelaifi, convinced that he can convince the footballer to stay.
Barça have been are informed about this meeting and hope that the footballer will hold off the pressure and decide to leave.
The footballer has remained firm on his position and has on the table a succulent offer for renewal that, for now, he has not signed. The conversations with the sporting director of the club, Antero Henrique, have stayed deadlocked and, therefore, there will be one last attempt from the directors. And anything could happen.
In Barça there is some optimism, although they are aware of the economic power PSG have and their capacity for seduction. There was even some fear that the player renewed unexpectedly with the offer he currently has.
Either Rabiot renews or leaves for free on June 30. PSG have explored the possibility of selling in January.
Rabiot is aware that he can charge a high signing on fee and join a team with chances of winning the Champions League if he leaves in June, so is unlikely to move now.
Barca’s idea is to attack in the moment that the player definitively breaks off negotiations with PSG. And that may be next week, although the Catalans insist it’s all in the air and respect the open negotiations for renewal. If there is no white smoke, Barça will put their foot on the accelerator from January - legally Rabiot can sign then because he would be in its last six months of his contract.
Rabiot understands that PSG’s offer is very high, but that can be compensated with the signing-on bonus and, in addition, he would have the option of joining a more solid sports project. From Italy and England proposals are also coming his way, but the insistence of Barca and the attraction of playing with Messi are important.
