The Catalan club will switch from white to black next season

Barcelona have made a radical change when it comes to choosing their second kit for next season. From white for the current season, they will change to black for the 2024-2025 season. SPORT can reveal what the alternative kit will look like.

If this season's white kit, worn a few days ago at Villarreal, caused a real 'boom' when SPORT also unveiled it, the decision to go for black will be more familiar to fans, as it has already been done on several occasions so far this century.

Black is the great and only protagonist of a shirt that will only have two special features: a Blaugrana strip around the neck and two more on the sides. Nothing else. The 'Spotify' logo will also change colour, as it will be red. This season, the company's symbol is white on the first shirt and blue on the second.

In the past, Barça have worn black on four other occasions. In the 2011-12 season, Pep Guardiola's last as coach, Barça opted for the first time for black on their second shirt. It was a very austere design in which, apart from the black, only the phosphorescent yellow of the sponsor and the Nike crest could be seen.

The following season, the same shirt would become the third. Until then, it was customary for the second kit of one year to be the third kit of the next season. But in 2013 the specific figure of a third kit was created for all purposes.

In the 2013-14 campaign, black was also the protagonist of the third shirt. That design was also very minimalist, although it featured thin lines of fluorescent yellow on the sides. Another detail was that on the back of the collar there was La Senyera.

For the last time to date, Barça wore black for the 2020-2021 campaign -- they did so on a total of eight occasions. It was the second kit and the black was complemented by gold, present on the sleeves, collar, crest and logos. Both the Barça and Nike logos as well as those of Rakuten and Beko. That year Koeman's team won the Copa del Rey, although the kit chosen for the final in La Cartuja against Athletic was that of La Senyera.

In total, Barça have played 20 matches in black: 12 in La Liga, six in the Champions League, one in the Copa del Rey and one friendly.
