The game went ahead but behind closed doors

Busquets and Messi (2) were the goal scorers

Barcelona released an official statement before their match against Las Palmas to confirm the game would go ahead, but behind closed doors.

It had seemed as if the game would be called off due to the tension surrounding the referendum in Catalonia on independence on Sunday.

Barça won the game 3-0, with Sergio Busquets and two Lionel Messi goals sealing their ninth straight win in all competitions.

"FC Barcelona condemns the events which have taken place in many parts of Catalonia today in order to prevent its citizens exercising their democratic right to free expression," their statement said.

"Given the exceptional nature of events, the Board of Directors have decided that the FC Barcelona first team game against Las Palmas will be played behind closed doors following the Professional Football League’s refusal to postpone the game."
