Barcelona want to tie midfielder Frenkie de Jong down to a new contract

The Dutchman has three years on his deal but Barça want to extend hi terms

The transfer window has now closed and FC Barcelona's squad for the current season has been finalised. However, in the club's offices, they continue to work hard with their sights set on the future and Frenkie de Jong is a key player in the sporting project led by Xavi Hernandez.

Long gone is the summer of 2022, when the midfielder was close to leaving the Catalan capital, with Manchester United strongly interested in him. The player's desire to stay eventually prevailed and he continued to wear the Blaugrana shirt. Last season, he had a great campaign and this new year has started with very good sensations, too.

In this sense, and according to 'AS', FC Barcelona wants to armour their fourth captain. Despite having three more years on his contract (until 30 June 2026), the Blaugrana have sent him an offer to extend his contract.

However, this offer will be financially adapted to the club's current financial situation, but Barça want to re-establish bridges with his agent and the player himself, after placing him on the market a few summers ago.
