Barcelona prepare their final loan offensive for Man City's Joao Cancelo
The Catalan club hope the issue will be resolved one way or another this week
Barcelona have begun their final assault on the signing of Joao Cancelo. The Catalan club will present a loan offer to Manchester City, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The reality is that there was already a first contact last Friday between the player's agent and City requesting the departure pending a meeting that will take place in the coming hours. Barça's proposal is for a loan with an option to buy in which they would take charge of the player's salary.
The Blaugrana want to solve for better or worse the Cancelo case this week. They are not going to wait any longer and that is what they let the player's agent know. There was a contact last Thursday between agent Jorge Mendes and Barça's sporting director Deco in which the strategy to follow was marked.
Barça passed on the maximum figures that they can reach to be able to register the player and Mendes promised to fight for it as the player's wish is to wear the Barça shirt. In order to be able to reach those amounts, Cancelo for the first time was open to lowering his salary.
Man City already communicated that the offer did not quite work for them as they are asking for a loan fee. Everything will now depend on the strength of the player and his agent as Cancelo is not part of Pep Guardiola's plans and they will have to get him out in these last days of the market.
Barça are not going to wait and, for this reason, have launched their offensive with a final offer that cannot be bettered.
Xavi wants Cancelo, but he also wanted Juan Foyth. But last week, Mateu Alemany met with Villarreal and got a resounding 'no' to negotiate below the termination clause.
With Cancelo, there is more confidence because City have a problem with the player and the Blaugrana option is the most consistent so far. It is a decisive week.
