Barcelona player ratings after win over Borussia Monchengladbach

Barcelona won the game 4-0 thanks to strikes by Lionel Messi and a hat-trick from Arda Turan on a straightforward evening

Jasper Cillessen 6

The Dutch goalkeeper had a quiet game without much to do.

Aleix Vidal 8

It’s clear that the full-back wants to prove a point. If against Hercules he showed that he had a place in the team, against Borussia he confirmed the good sensations. Good assist for Arda Turan’s second.

Javier Mascherano 8

A neat perfect game from the Jefecito. Good anticipation and won back many balls. Lacked a bit of precision when he tried to cross it into the area.

Samuel Umtiti 7

The French centre-back often stepped up to stop the German side moving the ball forward. Powerful in all ways. It was clear he was missed in the Clasico.

Lucas Digne 6

Played a game without much fuss, bringing more in attack than defence, even though he and Arda Turan weren’t clicking brilliantly. A fine cross for Messi, who was denied a goal by a spectacular save from his header.

Andre Gomes 6

Playing as the defensive pivot, he circulated the ball well but was a bit predictable. He had to risk more, but generally was at a decent level.

Denis Suarez 7

Some good work between the lines that he took advantage of, faster and with more willingness to go deep than ever. He set up the second goal with a deflected cross for Arda to score.

Andres Iniesta 8

Showed he is still the midfielder with the most ability to make the difference at Barcelona. When he has the ball at his feet, the team’s football shines. Exceptional combinations with Leo Messi. Everything is easier with Andres on the pitch. Played 60 minutes, sufficient to get the game on the right course.

Lionel Messi 8

The Argentine forward could not reach Cristiano Ronaldo’s record but he opened the scoring and nearly equalled it with an extra-ordinary header which was saved very well.

Paco Alcacer 6

He needed 57 minutes to shoot for the first time on target after a good team move. Before that he had brought little to the team’s attacking play. A good assist for Arda Turan’s third goal.

Arda Turan 9

He wanted to make his error against Real Madrid forgotten and played a fine game. He was on the left wing and took advantage of the space to set up Messi for the opener then go on to grab three himself.
