Barcelona player ratings after cup thrashing of Real Sociedad
Denis Suarez (2), Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Arda Turan grabbed the goals as Barcelona beat the Basques 5-2 at Camp Nou
Jasper Cillessen 7
No chance with either goal. Did well with his feet and made a fine save from Willian Jose which led to Barcelona’s second goal after a quick breakaway.
Sergi Roberto 6
A fairly quiet game at right-back before being replaced by Aleix Vidal at half-time as he appeared to pick up a knock.
Samuel Umtiti 6
The first goal came after a tackle from him, although la Real claimed it was a foul. Perhaps could have done better by sticking closer to Juanmi for the opening goal.
Gerard Pique 6
The same goes for Pique too, with both centre-backs not positioned particularly well for either goal from the visitors.
Jordi Alba 6
A solid performance but didn’t cause as many problems for the Basques as he has caused other teams in the past with attacking excursions.
Javier Mascherano 7
Flew into tackles and played with freedom as he was restored to his favoured defensive midfield role in Busquets’ absence.
Denis Suarez 9
Played in the right interior position where he worked brilliantly well with Messi, scoring the first and last goals of the game. Truly ‘Miniesta’.
Andre Gomes 7
One of the harder working players in the squad, always covers a lot of ground and this was no exception. His passing could have been a bit sharper at times.
Lionel Messi 9
Barcelona’s magician pulled more from his bag of tricks again. Extra-terrestrial, superhuman, none of it does it him justice. You have to watch him.
Luis Suarez 8
The Uruguayan is like a bull, always scrapping, always fighting and, yes, always scoring. A good display and got the goal he deserved.
Neymar 8
Worked extremely hard for the team and shone again when going forward, earning the team a penalty with a lightning break.
