Barça have made contact with Sevilla defender, who has 30 million euro release clause

FC Barcelona are looking at signing Sevilla's young defender Clement Lenglet to strengthen their squad for next season.

Lenglet, who arrived at Sevilla in January 2017 from French side AS Nancy for 4.5 million euros, was one of the last signings made by Sevilla's renowned sporting director Monchi before he left for Roma to begin a new cycle.

The French defender has been performing at a surprisingly high level for a long time and Real Madrid and some English clubs have been looking at signing him. Lenglet is an untouchable starter for Sevilla coach Vincenzo Montella and has played more minutes than most Liga players this season.

Sevilla are well awarethat they have one of the revelations of the season in their squad and have taken steps to improvehis contract and raise his buy-out clause. Hisinitial clause was 30 million euros and sources at Sevilla say it is now 45 million euros.

Barça have also been following Lenglet closely. His quick adaption to La Liga and consistent performances mirror Samuel Umtiti's consistent displays at Camp Nou. Barça have already made contact with the defender's agents in a bid to prevent him renewing his contract and raising his buy-out clause. The interest in Lenglet, however, has nothing to do with Umtiti's future at Barça, because the Catalan club expect that sooner or later the defender will accept an improved contract.
