Barcelona decide to renew Arnau Tenas' deal

| sport

Barcelona have decided to execute the clause that allowed them to renew goalkeeper Arnau Tenas for two seasons, as his contract with the Catalan giants expires on Friday June 30.

Arnau Tenas himself confirmed a few days ago that Barça had already informed him of the decision not to renew his contract. However, the club has finally reversed its decision and the U21 international will remain linked to the club for the next two seasons, according to Agencia EFE.

Barcelona value Arnau Tenas' age (21), his thirteen seasons at the club at youth level, his excellent footwork and the good attitude he has always shown in all the youth teams he has played for.

However, the club had decided not to renew him, taking into account that they already have two goalkeepers of guaranteed quality for the first team, Marc-André ter Stegen, last season's Zamora winner, and Iñaki Peña, and that it was therefore very difficult for him to be a first-choice keeper.

However, at the last minute, the club has reconsidered its position and has decided to renew the goalkeeper from Vic to loan him to a First Division team, which will take on part of the 1.5 million euros of salary that Arnau Tenas will receive.

Yes Europe, no promotion

The Catalan goalkeeper is currently playing the U21 European Championship with the Spanish national team and is showing an excellent level, as the starting goalkeeper of Santi Denia's team that plays this Saturday the quarter-finals of the tournament against Switzerland.

During the season, Arnau Tenas has been the captain and first-choice goalkeeper for Barça Atlètic, with whom he played 30 games, conceding 27 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets. His call-up for the European Under 21 Championship meant that he was unable to play in the second leg of the Play-Off for promotion to the Liga Smartbank against RM Castilla, which ended in a disappointing defeat for the Blaugrana.
