Barcelona are convinced that Rakitic will remain at Camp Nou
The club have held talks with the Croatian midfielder this week and are optimistic
U-turn in the 'Ivan Rakitic case'. FC Barcelona are convinced, at the moment, that the Croatian midfielder will stay at the club. Even though Paris Saint-Germain's offer remains firm (90 million euros for Barça, doubling the player's salary), Barça believe that they've changed Rakitic's mind on his future.
Over the last 48 hours there have been intense conversations with the player and his agent. Various people at the club have tried to convince Rakitic that Barça's the place for him, the place where he can keep winning trophies this season after the club stengthened in the transfer market this summer.
In none of these conversations, despite what's been published elsewhere, was Rakitic promised an immediate wage increase, though, which is one of the main reasons he seemed set to join PSG.
For the moment, coach Ernesto Valverde has assured Rakitic that he counts on him and on Saturday he will start against Real Valladolid. However, talks with PSG remain open and there's still a week left in the transfer window for things to change again.
